Mark and Leanne had offered to host us, something that was appreciated very much by both of us. We met them and Mark’s three kids Elise, Madison and Bastian at their home. The next day, we trooped across the city to ASB showplace to begin set up.
We displayed older sets, namely larger Bionicles, Legends of Chima buildables (and their minifigure counterparts), buildable Knights Kingdom and Dinosaurs.
The Dinosaurs are from the early 2000’s and one set could build four different models. We have been working on building all four versions from each set, for a total of 16 different dinosaurs. We are finally one quarter torso section away from being complete. We substituted one color panel and faced that side away from the public.
The exhibitors were also allowed to sell a small amount at their tables due to there being no large retailer. With Covid, the usual store had decided not to risk his staff’s health or his business in case there was an outbreak there. John took a large box of spare Bionicle sets and we were able to sell most of them to the nostalgic attendees.
I popped over to Armageddon for a look on all three days of the show, succeeding in getting completely lost on the Saturday. I bought some items I had been looking for, and nearly spent $300 on a pair of Care Bears sneakers.
While looking around on Saturday, I found a model railway layout. I got a few photos and meant to go back and get more information, but completely forgot. It was from the Western Districts Model Railway Club. One man I spoke to said they had been asked to have two layouts, but couldn’t get enough members to run them both.
The layout they had was large, and I was told it was it’s first outing in 20 years due to the size. The viaduct was very impressive, I especially liked the lion statues at both ends.

John spent much of the weekend making LEGO earrings and was able to sell a few to both the public and ladies with displays.
pandas, pumpkins, brick seperators and Hedwig
All in all, it was an amazing event, and one John and I were honored to be able to attend. We met lots of great people and saw some great cosplay outfits. We are already looking forward to the next event and cementing the friendships made so far.
Many thanks to Mark and Leanne for hosting us, and the amazing AuckLUG for putting on a great event.
