no new scores to report, but hopefully this time tomorrow i will have found something! be good, and i will see you next month!
the show at the race course went great! we had thousands stop and admire our layouts. it was overwhelming the respose from the public. after the frustrations on thursday with the hiawataha, i took it anyway, figuring it could sit in the siding. towards the end, i decided to give her a run, and what do you know... she was rolling and steaming as soon as i turned the power on. i let her warm up before hooking on her new rolling stock. one hedge will have to be trimmed as the ladders on the caboose get hooked up and cause a derailment. my rolling stock arrived thursday, just in time to take to the club, until the loco decided it didnt want to play nicely. lol. i gave them a clean up, and intend to try and replace the doors on the box car and maybe touch up the rubbed off lettering on the caboose.
did the groceries for mums work this morning and we stopped into the salvation army store. i picked up a wooden "block house" for ashvins wooden thomas set, some spongebob cards for my bosses grandson and, last but not least, a terence cover from a big loader set.
i also send my thoughts to sam... shes a close friend of mine who was seriously injured in a hit and run while walking to work yesterday. the driver failed to stop, despite the fact she ended up on the bonnet for some distance. she has many injuries, including a puntured lung, but appears to be in good spirits despite it all. get well soon, sam! its not the same without you!! i won on saturday an auction for two tri-ang wagons to run with my hiawatha this weekend. they havent arrived yet, but i will post photos when they do. hopefully tomorrow or friday at the latest. i have added photos to the toy train page of my christmas decoration engines.
mum and i are off to aussie on the 26th january, so no emails will be answered until the 12th or so of february. heres hoping i find some new thomas stuff there, cos there sure isnt anything in the stores here. i got the hypercity fire rescue vehicles from palmy, along with the smoke oil for the hiawatha. i will be taking her along to the club this week for a test run. she will be running at the vintage car rally here in town next weekend, so i want to ensure shes working ok. paul might also look at adjusting her wheels so she will run on the main layout without issues. colin and i basically finished the scatter material work on the layout, now we just need to attach the buildings. nothing really new to report. i went to wellington on dec 27th for the kirks sale. turns out they had it 2 weeks early so most stuff was gone.
on the way home, i stopped at coastlands mall toyworld and picked up the diecast police vehicles from the hypercity range. photos here. they were only $10, down from $30. i hope to get the fire vehicles tomorrow when we take the kids to palmerston nth. was a mostly uneventful day. like last year i rode much of the way on the hard shoulder due to traffic. its either that or stay in traffic, overheat the engine and turn my legs into a roast dinner, lol. i took the hiawatha out to the club again, where master repairman paul took it to bits and gave it a proper lube up. he said she runs really well and is still quite tight from lack of use. he think shes been in a box somewhere for most of her life. she also blows smoke, so i will get some smoke oil tomorrow. |
