these hardly ever come up on ebay, so to find one locally is amazing. should have it next week, need to find out postage first.
i was just browsing on trademe, and checked the canadian HO scale listings. imagine my shock to see the caboose that matches my canadiana loco that paul repaired! it was on with a $5 buy now, so i snapped it up. looks good, just needs a chimney. with post, it came to $10.50 for both. the other one will likely be used for parts as its missing the grab rails, chimney and who knows what else. these hardly ever come up on ebay, so to find one locally is amazing. should have it next week, need to find out postage first. im off to silverstream with blair this weekend. leaving tomorrow and will be back late sunday. we are taking two of his layouts down. silverstream is celebrating the 150yrs of rail, so will be a lot of engines out. really looking forward to it.
the trucks and loads i won on trademe arrived today. i paid a total of $31 for the lot. i mainly wanted the items in photo one, but not minding having the rest as well. always nice to have extras.
kevin is a road vehicle, so a better photo of his flat decks are here. a clearer photo of the loads are here. im really impressed with the detailing on the loads, especially the gears. they have a slightly metallic sheen to them. in addition, the gears and sacks are actually shaped, and not just moulded rectangles. it does mean they dont fit properly in standard trucks, but thats a small sacrifice. the wooden christmas train is from vicky. she bought one online and it arrived with a little damage, so the company sent her another. she sent the first one to me, and i will use it on the christmas layout somehow, and will likely put hooks in and make it a christmas decoration. i had an email from dale, with a really good offer in it. i may soon be the owner of one of the hardest to find HIT engines, so watch this space. richard, a friend on facebook, is starting a small business doing tomy and thomas displays for childrens birthdays and events. he has a massive collection and has done set ups at numerous displays in the uk.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Track-Party/496622903778970 well worth checking out. i won two auctions on trademe tonight, and hope to buy a third from the same seller, as i missed the closing time.
i got kevins flat decks and 2 loads for talking face changing thomas and james from the same series, but no engines. i had been wondering where the loads came from, as they didnt match anything in my collection, but made the connection when browsing ebay this morning. the third auction i hope to get has another load for talking thomas. unusual to get bits from very hard to find items. be interesting to see what else the seller has to list. i have put the auction photos up for now, and will take my own when they arrive. kevins flat decks are here, and the loads are here. presenting, CASEY JR! thanks to my friend fe, who hooks me up with disney ornaments each year.
he is just perfect in every way. really pleased to have this often overlooked character to hang in the tree. my other christmas trains are shown here i finally got sick of the photo of one of the iron twins without track, so i went up and retook it. while there, i decided to also show the different trucks each came with, as the old photos made them look the same.
aside from color, they are very different, as this photo shows. one is a vent van and the other just a standard box. we went down to palmerston north yesterday. i went primarily to buy couplers for rob, as he has exhausted his supply repairing my stuff. i got those [$76!!! yikes!] and then we went down to the warehouse.
theres been 4 or 5 different track sets available here for a while now, but no new engines for months. i have resisted the sets as i feel they are too expensive for what they are. when we got to the warehouse, i went straight to the thomas stuff, and was thirlled to find stephen, caitlin and connor sitting on the shelf. a sign said all thomas was 20% off. their normal price is $36NZD. being useless with maths, i went to a scanner to check, and they actually scanned up at 50% off! i had originally thought caitlin and conner were repaints of the same model, but while taking photos, i found a number of differences, from funnels to windows. nice to see mattel investing some money into this line. the only thing i wish they had done was put colored wheels on the passenger coaches as well. would have really finished them off. well, my piles of junk have finally been sorted through! it was things i had pulled out from under the layout and from in the cupboards. i needed the committee to decide what to do with it, as much was club related papers from way back. rob somehow landed the task of paper shuffling from the boxes i dumped on the table.
while shuffling, he found a zippy bag of the old club hat pins. i found some of our old tea spoons at a second hand shop earlier this year, and blair had told me we had pins to match. so now i have a nice pair to keep, and i got an extra 2 pins. one i will send to bob and jane in canada, and the other i will use to make a box frame using another spoon and our club patch and badge. a lot of papers got thrown out, and other stuff we will donate to charity, as its just things taking up space. a couple of weeks back, paul took home one of the locos i bought from midas mart, along with my poorly running canadiana. i think he said it had a stripped gear. it ran, but made a horrendous noise as well. its been sitting on the club turntable since i got it.
between the two, he was able to repair my canadiana and it now runs beautifully! the other still goes a bit, but is best tucked away and used for parts. well worth the $2.50 i paid for it, to get my other one running. for some reason, i have no pictures of the canadiana, so will likely go out tomorrow and get a couple of shots. i have implemented a google search bar. i will run a trial for a while and then decide whether to keep it or not. i dont know much about how it works, so welcome any advice on how to make it work better or be more useful. |
