lego trains
this page features my collection of lego train sets both large and small builds. there are some i need to get photos of yet, but that will come with time as i find things and get photos.
most of my collection will focus on the classic 4.5v range, as something about the old builds really appeals, moreso than the modern designs. plus getting them in good shape is just that much harder.

150 [1966], 151 [1966], 154 [1967], 155 [1967] - track assortment
from jauce. i didnt need anymore track, but decided to bite the bullet for the paperwork, plus more points are always handy for sidings. i did not get a photo of the track before hamish had it out and was setting up a track. so i will keep the seller photos, and have added the pics of the paperwork included with the lot.
150 is the straight track, 151 is the curved, 154 are the points and 155 are the cross sections.

12v blue track
111-2 - starter train set without motor [1966]
113-2 motorised train set [1966]
won this on the usual site for about $70. no where near complete, basically just a box of parts. i was mainly looking at the box and instructions. will slowly work on the set itself.
120 - complete freight train with tipper trucks [1969]
another jauce win. this set is missing one of the tipper trucks, but still pleased to have for around $30 all in. will work on replacing the missing tipper wagon, missing "120" brick and anything else that needs attention.
i bought another from trademe, which will give me the couple of missing parts, plus an extra tipper wagon which will enable me to make set 125 - tipping wagon.

122 - loco and tender [1969]
i won this on jauce. really pleased to have it with the box, which adds so much charm to the set
123 - passenger coach [1969]
from jauce. i had a bit of a fight to win this one. the seller had 3, but only this one with the paperwork. it is in great shape, which is nice to see.
124 - goods wagon [1969]
another work in progress. from the bulk vintage lot that john bought part of. our friend who tipped us off had also bought a bag, and his contained the printed brick for the goods wagon.
125 - tipping wagon [1969]
rather fortuitous. i am buying a second set of 120 from trademe, the parts from which will enable me to make this set up. i do enjoy lucky little things like that!
126 - steam locomotive [push] [1970]
from jauce again. instructions have been bought from bricklink
128-3 - mobile crane [plate base] [1971]
built up from parts. this and 128-2 are almost identical, the only difference is this one has a plate base using separate wheel blocks and couplers, while the other has a train base with built in wheels and couplers.
128-2 - mobile crane [train base] [1972]
built up from parts. this and 128-3 are almost identical, the only difference is this one has a train base with built in wheels and couplers, while the other has a plate base using separate wheel blocks and couplers.
130 - wagon with double tippers [1972]
from jauce. i won two of these. really only need one, but the box and instructions were too good to leave behind! pics show one of the sets. the second set was passed along to vaughan
131 - passenger coach [1972]
won on jauce. looks to be complete and in great shape. is missing two "1" stickers from one side, but still displays fine and is a welcome addition to the fleet.
132 - port crane and flat wagon [1972]
170 - push along play train [1972]
won on jauce for 3500Y. really pleased to get it for that price, especially with the box.
171 - complete train set without motor [1972]
from jauce again, is complete except for one sticker
180 - train with 5 wagons and circle of track [1972]
another jauce win, from the same seller as 120, and a slew of others on this page. missing the stickers and a couple of minor parts, stoked with it for around $70 total.
181 - complete train set with motor, signals and switch [1972]
won on jauce and will find a signal and switch for it as we go.
133 - locomotive [push] [1975]
won on jauce. missing a couple of pieces, namely the yellow connection rod, wheel attachment and piston box. but the stickers look good, and that is the main thing!
134 - mobile crane and wagon [1975]
recovered from the hospice bulk lot, and finally completed.
136 - shell tanker wagon [1975]
another work in progress. needs one more printed "shell" brick
148 - central station [1975]
a nice little trademe win. got it for around $80, so happy with that. was a bit of a bidding war, but i let autobid do its job, and came way $40 under my maximum amount. i need to replace the stickers, but over all very happy with it.
137 - passenger sleeping car [1975]
won on jauce. looks to be complete with great looking stickers.
182 - train set with signal [1975]
i bought this set on facebook for $170. it is complete and came with extra track. just need to replace the stickers at some stage. another wonderful addition to the vintage collection.
john got some bulk vintage lego which had parts of this in it, including the engine stickered assembly and 3 of the 4 "dining" stickers for the red and yellow coach. i swapped out the bricks from the engine, and have glued on the dining stickers.

146 - level crossing [1976]
another one pulled from the vintage bulk. the pics show an incorrect ariel color, but it will do the trick for now.
147 - refrigerated car with forklift [1976]
another extraction, selected for its use of the old forklift assembly, and the fact it has two more of the classic minifigures in it, to help tie everything to the level crossing. i need the doors, and to replace the two lime green bricks with white of the correct period.
149 - fuel refinery [1976]
won on trademe for $90. now will have somewhere to park the shell tanker. just had to put in a couple of missing bricks. altogether in very good shape. also need to find the missing ariel.
since the photos were taken, i have added a magnetic plate to the buffer stop in case i need to move it with a wagon in place.

183 - Complete Train Set with Motor and Signal [1976]
john picked up a few bags of old lego at an op shop, and within we found enough essential parts, including the stickers, to put 183 back together. i got the missing grille bricks from bricklink, and then scored a bulk lot on trademe that was another partial set, including the windows, and a good condition battery box. set is now complete.
726 - 12v western train with two wagons and cowboys
built up from parts from both johns and my supplies, missing a couple of parts, which will be found in due time. i have been wanting to build this beauty for a while, so really pleased to have it on the shelf
163 - cargo wagon [1977]
bought from pieter, and used spares included and from johns collection to build the two alternate models. a very impressive set.
164 - passenger wagon [1978]
i bought two bulk lots on trademe from the same seller. the instructions for this were included, and it would have been rude to not build it up. complete except for stickers. only needed a couple of pieces from our stash. very happy with it. john bought me some more bases on bricklink, so i decided to build the two alternates for this set. just need a couple more parts from bricklink to finish the closed in coach.
i love the open excursion car, a unique build for my fleet so far.

166 - flat wagon [1978]
built from johns bulk parts after finding the instructions on bricklink.
167 - loading ramp and car transport wagon [1978]
7710 - push along passenger steam train [1980]
sold...sold...sold...sold...sold...sold...sold...
one of the two sets i bought from ewan over queens birthday weekend. one of the carriages is missing, so john and i went through his parts and rebuilt as much as we could. the tricky part is trying to match the other ones wear and tear and not end up with one looking brand new. a cute set with all figures included. it also came with the original instructions but no decals.
7720 - diesel freight train set, battery [1980]
found on trademe, won for $230.
7760 - electric diesel locomotive [1980]
7810 - push along steam engine [1980]
another from pieter. just needs stickers. this is the original of the 40th anniversary set released a couple of years ago. another lovely loco for the collection.
7834 - level crossing manual [1980]
7853 - crossing, grey 4.5v [1980]
john got me this off bricklink as it was boxed. a really essential piece of track for almost any layout.
7725 - electric passenger train [1981]
another from pieter. hamish built it one evening when he was visiting.
7821 - overhead lighting and gantry maintenance wagon [1983]
bought from peiter on facebook. complete and a really nice set. have ordered the instructions from bricklink
7735 - electric freight train set [1985]
sold...sold...sold...sold...sold...sold...sold...
one of the two sets i bought from ewan. this one is complete, including most of the decal sheet. it also has the box and what seems to be all of the original paperwork that came with it. no controller, but ewan said he used a lima one.
7722 - 4.5v steam cargo train [1985]
this was an awesome score from savemart in 2017. i think i paid around $8 for it, and could only see i had tomy track and some lego, not what it actually was. i was given tracks for it to complete the loop and am working on replacing the oddball colored parts with correct.
7715 - push along passenger steam train [1985]
another from jauce. i had to bid on this one, and was able to get it for Y8750, around $110znd. stoked to have it in decent condition for its age.
7817 - crane wagon [1985]
4558 - metroliner 9v set [1991]
sold...sold...sold...sold...sold...sold...sold...
my brothers once upon a time. i have since claimed ownership. it needs to be rebuilt as i removed the motor for use in the monster fighters and winter village trains. one day, i would like to acquire 4547 club car which was designed to complement this set.
4547 - club car [1993]
a real work in progress, the hard to find metroliner add-on club car. so far, i have most of the bits for the minifigs and that is it. lol.
monster fighters ghost train
winter village holiday train and station
disney train and station
40th anniversary static display gwp [2020]
this model celebrates the 40th anniversary of lego trains, and was a lego shop gift with purchase over a certain amount. i have not decided whether to open it or not.
small sets/polybags
this section features small sets and polybags. there is at least one more i need photos of, the christmas candy train. just have to find it...
