this is just one of the many items i bought at midas mart today. i spent less than $27cad and came out with the spike, a pencil sharpener, 11 pieces of rolling stock which was mostly canadian, 2 locos both cnr, a clock and an avon santa fe ornament. totally thrilled with all of it. so cheap too. the locos were 2.50 and most of the rest of was 1.00 or there abouts.pleased as punch with it all. i also joined the library so i could borrow train books to read while here. tree books are awesome.
just a brief update. i had a look at the percy from the reptile set today. i am pleased to report fisher-price seem to have abandoned the triangle screws and reverted to phillips. this means repairs are possible again, as is the ability to strip engines for parts.
we went to walmart over in owen sound tonight. there wasnt anything to buy last time, but tonight i lucked out.
first i found a thomas activity book with over 700 stickers for $10 and another story book with 50 stickers for $6. from there i went and checked the toy section expecting to come up empty. i was surprised to find both the carnival delivery set and percys reptile park set. i grabbed both, but put the carnival set away when i found toys from the new pixar film Monsters University. there were 3 sets of 4 small figures, so grabbed 1 of each for the christmas layout. everything has been deboxed to take up less suitcase space and also reduce weight a bit. i will pick the carnival set eventually, but given its a repaint, i dont consider it overly important. at least the reptile set is a whole new design and percy has a scared look. made it safely to my other home town of Meaford on the shore of Georgian Bay.so far, glenn and i have visited 3 disused train stations that have been converted to museums. one in owen sound which has a caboose stored outside. another near thornbury and the last in collingwood which has 3 boxcars outside.we have also attended a model show in midland which was quite good. didnt buy much just a shirt and badge. the models were dearer than what i would pay back home.there is a classic car and plane show this weekend at billy bishop airport by owen sound. also glenns birthday so i will buy him his first plane ride for a present.no new scores sadly enough. but theres time yet for that.
