anyway, i went down the thomas aisle, just in case, and was stoked to find the two different 2018 glow in the dark minis 5pks hanging up, priced at $9NZD each. of course i grabbed them both, and was also sorely tempted by the trackmaster neon glow engines, but stuck to my resolve to not buy anymore trackmaster, and at $30 each it was easy to leave them.
i went into the warehouse this morning, planning on grabbing a movie to watch - the sound of music of all things. never seen it, but i am reading julie andrews biography, and i love her in mary poppins so will give it a chance!

i got some brickheadz and the steamboat willie set. i ended up taking the brickheadz to the meeting and building them there, saving steamboat willie for the weekend. i also have a couple of bricklink orders coming to complete the toy story polybags ahead of the palmerston north brickshow at the end of may. not really much else to report. the open day a couple of weeks back went ok, but i had trouble with derailments and things. starting to gear up for the big show at the end of september. on this weekend, a group of us travelled up to waitara preservation society to run steamrails jiggers. i went up on saturday with blair, ewan, hamish, jamie and keegan, sleeping on the station floor overnight. the rest of the group arrived on sunday.
we did a number of runs up and down the line, including two to the nearby supermarket to pick up dinner and again for dessert. hamish was able to borrow a kiwirail truck and a trailer that allowed the guys to transport their jiggers safely in one go. the hiab on the truck made loading and unloading a breeze, much easier than using muscle power. before heading home on sunday afternoon, we stopped at the new plymouth model railway group. their layout is extensive and they run it like a proper railway, sending trains of goods to each others yards. they are based in a former cow shed on a farm, and the one layout takes up the entire building. it was a great weekend. i had an absolute blast. thanks to blair and keegan for putting up with me on the drive there and back. cant wait until next time! click the photo to view more. |
