the two were originally $80 each, and the discount brought them to $17.50 each, a much better price. they are fabric over a metal frame and light up.
so glad i waited to buy them, would have been kicking myself big time otherwise.
called into the warehouse this afternoon, just for a nosey. they had 75% off their remaining christmas stock, so i grabbed 2 packs of cards with trains on, a metal santa decoration and these two.
the two were originally $80 each, and the discount brought them to $17.50 each, a much better price. they are fabric over a metal frame and light up. so glad i waited to buy them, would have been kicking myself big time otherwise. what a whirlwind couple of days! christmas day, i lounged around until the afternoon, watching "simons cat" cartoons on youtube. hilarious! finally, i got moving and went to the club where i finished taking down the decorations and laid another coat of green on the N scale layout. from there, i went to blair and kylies mums to drop off keegans christmas present. kylie wrangled me into helping her set up the train set she got for him... result was i finally left at about 10pm after staying for tea. thanks again, you guys! while there, blair mentioned a trip to waitara, which i was invited along on. mum and dad got home the next day, bringing with them the trains mum got at zero to five. the big big loader is incomplete, sadly, but nice to have the box! the hypercity set is one of the bigger ones with clear tunnel, cardboard road and buildings. not pictured is the zip, zoom and logging set. saturday was the trip to waitara, to pick up some parts for the drewry loco at steamrail. blair took keegan and i went with ewan. was a long day, thankfully the weather was kind to us. once everything was loaded, the crew kindly offered jigger rides over the recently re-opened bridge. i didnt go that way last time, so keegan and i went. we got back to steamrail where the parts were placed on temporary track overnight. sunday was another long day, spent moving cabinets, rolling stock and the loco the parts are for, in order to fit them inside. work well done, with tidying to be done over the next few weeks. thanks for the great weekend, guys! nice to get dirty once in a while! mum and dad are off to aussie again tomorrow, leaving about 2 in the morning! they are back in a couple of weeks, and ive given mum a list of stuff to keep an eye out for, while not actually expecting her to find any of it. be interesting to see what she picks up.
the layout went grinch green yesterday, after a coat of paint. needs a couple more, but im happy with the color, nice and summery!
mum and i went round the op shops on friday with no luck until our last stop at the hospice shop near home. i got a bag of tomy for $6. seems to be a mix of close knock off, genuine and some chinese market stuff. sadly, the engine is missing the cover and one battery terminal. the second photo below shows the difference in the tracks in the bag. mum and dad have gone to see the kids and wont be home til the weekend. mum rang this morning from zero to five, as he had hit a jackpot of thomas. so far, shes got a boxed big big loader, a tomica hypercity set, a damaged zip zoom and logging adventure and either a wooden or take n play snowy thomas.
who knows what else she will come back with! while setting up for the christmas show, i rediscovered the portable layout neil started on a few years ago. i had to wait until after the show to do anything, but the tuesday after, i was out with a chisel and a few other bits, hacking off the "scenery" and getting it ready to test. after removing as much material as possible, i gave the whole surface a light sanding to remove most of the imperfections left from the glue.
yesterday, i got rob to show me how to lift the track and gave the whole thing a layer of white top coat. the next coat will be in a green, and then the track will be relaid partially. ive got plans next year to replace with either tomix or kato, since my ideas dont fit the track being used currently. well, this years christmas display of thomas was an almost total bust. i was there some 12 hours on thursday, spent a couple of hours setting up my stuff and then wouldnt you believe it?? it rained, so i had to do a quick pack up. boy, was i ever cross. the trackmaster christmas pieces caused no end of trouble, with all 4 engines getting stuck on one or the other of them. will have to think of something else next time. never mind, will be there again next year i guess. click the pic to see more photos. i have a project for next year, salvaging the portable N scale layout that neil started a couple of years back. i want it for the tomix thomas to run on at the show. so will scrape the scenery off [wont take much!] and may even end up replacing the tracks yet. not sure.
nothing really to update... havent bought anything thomas since the N scale arrived.
am buying another ride on train from fellow collector gavin, but wont have that til early next year, as mum and dad are collecting it from him in australia when they are over there. 2 down, 1 to go. the club christmas show is this coming thursday and friday nights... so excited!! have been busy with the prep for that... sorting decorations with help from joe, sorting power cords for the portables, locating the controller for the toy story layout and other bits and bobs. tuesday i am helping blair set up his, and then thursday i will be helping faye and alan giles with theirs. gonna be flat out. so even though ive got no income right now, its a good time to be off work. this would be impossible otherwise. so likely no more updates until next weekend, with photos from the nghts. my stuff is outside again, so a fresh display each time. |
