this page shows how to clean and repair the motorised body from the big loader sets. it should be the same for thomas post office loader and other similar sets. im not an expert on the loader line, but the bodies come in handy. the motors are the same as the tomy engines, with addition of two wires soldered to the points on the motor. the gear layout is slightly different to the engines.
i have noticed the body casings come in a number of colors... white, grey, orange, blue and theres likely more out there. all part of the fun! likewise, the cogs inside can vary in color.

the photos below compare a genuine big loader chassis and the fake. the grey is genuine and the white is the fake. while they seem identical to begin with, there are a number of small differences once you know what to look for.
with the covers, the orange is the fake. the main difference is untidy moulding of the plastic. for some reason, the genuine covers werent stamped, and relied on stickers for identification.
