went up to the durie hill look out this evening to get photos of the sunset. through the handlebars of my trusty motorcycle is mount egmont. its not often this mountain is visible due to cloud cover. its about a 2 hour ride north.
after a lovely sleep in this morning, i got up to a very frosty world. the back lawn was so white it looked like a fine covering of snow. the plant pots of water out the back were frozen, some of them solid. however, the sun was shining and i decided it was too nice a day to stay home, even if it was cold! so i gassed up the motorbike, donned my winter gear and hit the road for sanson. not an entirely wasted trip. my friend sue had a few tomy things in a box. she doesnt often have anything i want to buy, so it was nice to finally spend some money with her. i spent a whole $2! LOL. i was glad to get the trees. for some reason, they are rather hard to find. the pullback works well but will need to be cleaned.
im not sure what the harold goes with, and the same for the little flat house thing with the fat controller. i grabbed them just cos they might be useful down the track. everything is in good condition, which is nice. thanks to jason for letting me know where they came from. much appreciated! i took my takara tomy 65th anniversary thomas and also the takara thomas big cruise set out to the club tonight to set up for next weeks open night. no photos yet, but i didnt have the space i needed, so had to put the two layouts side by side instead of one inside the other.
i will buy batteries tomorrow and get photos of the layouts on tuesday at the committee meeting [yes, i got nominated on at the AGM last week] i also took my rivarossi out as it was running night and decided to leave them out there for next week. it will be under robs control and care next week as i will have to babysit the thomas stuff. thanks to mum for sewing a thomas boarder onto the blue sheet i use under the tracks. it looks great! i shot up to savemart before going to work today and saw a bag with a toy building that i thought i could scavenge screws from. i picked it up and recognised it as thomas and then saw thomas in the bag along with annie. a closer look revealed they were joined together and it was actually steam along thomas. clarabel was also in the bag along with two other small toy engines. i grabbed it for a whole $2.
annie clicks terribly when turned on, it sounds like a cracked cog or something. unfortunately, i cant get in for a look as they have used the infamous triangle screws, which i dont yet have a driver for. so repairs or scrapping will have to wait, which is a shame. a bit of research has revealed the station to be maithwaite. for some reason, its not stamped anywhere. a nice little bonus on yesterday. wonder when the good luck will run out? hehe. i took today off work so i could go to palmerston nth and see the new pixar film, brave. no spoilers, but it was amazing! its heart breaking the beauty that humans can create. well worth the trip.
i did a little shopping as well, hitting the second hand shops before seeing the movie. i scored a hobnobbin, a stitch keyring, thumpers girlfriend and numerous spongebob toys for my bosses grandson. i also went to the mall and decided at the last minute to have a look at farmers. i ended up buying skarloeys puppet show and o the indignity gordon!! finally, some new engines IN STORE! shocking, lol. they are both really nice models. skarloey will be used on my christmas layout this year. their photos are here the two engines i won on trademe last week arrived today. sir handel in charge and duncan does it all are two of the hardest of the origjnal trackmaster engines to find. both need a few things to make them complete, but that will come with time.
their photos are here i am stoked to have these two finally. ive just won an auction on ebay for this set. i got it for $20USD. the seller states its from the 70s. from what i can tell, the tracks are different to standard dovetail, yet the engine has a hook coupler and the trees are the same style as the thomas tomy ones. the logo on the underside of the train is the one with two "stick figure children" as seen in the picture at the top of this blog. it is being sent to my friend ricky, so i wont get it until next month as he also helped me by buying bachmann grain hoppers and the seller only sent 3 instead of the 4 ordered. they are being restocked end of this month so i asked him to send them together to save on shipping a bit. the tunnel has plastic portals, but the rest is cardboard and it doesnt look to have ever been curved to shape, which is interesting for such an old set. cant wait for it to arrive so i can investigate it more. google hasnt revealed anything, so the quest will continue for a while at least.
popped into farmers this afternoon and picked up two cross, switch and stack track packs. they were $50 each, but had %20 off, which was nice. been looking for this one for a while, so nice to have it at last. :)
photos are here just won two auctions on trademe after a couple of interesting bidding wars. the first was for "duncan does it all" he is covered in mud and is meant to come with a cattle car and cattle. he has two other wagons instead. the second was for "sir handel in charge" who is covered in leaves and flowers. he is meant to come with a log car, but comes with two others, one of which is duncans cattle car. i paid $38 for sir handel and $31 for duncan.
really pleased to finally have them, now to find their rolling stock and loads to make them "correct". photos will be posted as soon as they arrive. weebly have introduced some new designs and options, so over the next few days or weeks i will be experimenting with the changes. the site layout wont change, but colors will. its possible i will revert back the original yellow bar design, but wanted to play with the new toys, lol.
