the parents are over in tauranga for the weekend. right before they left, i saw this in a photo on the zero to five facebook page. its a bag of what seems to be mostly vintage tomy. mum picked it up today, cant wait to see whats in it.
gotta love friday mornings! no work til 1pm, so gives me the morning to hit the op shops. mostly i only go to savemart, but today my gut was telling to visit the others as well. there wasnt much at savemart... i got a lovely disneystore fozzie bear soft toy, a winnie the pooh book with moving pictures and a dvd of the land before time for the neice and nephews. from savemart, i went to the salvation army shop, but there was nothing of interest there at all. i decided to stop by the motorbike shop and put some money on my bill [two new tires were fitted monday.] and from there i went past robs work and on out to the gonville hospice. normally, they dont have anything though i have had some good buys there like 3 or 4 my child dolls and a bag of big loader. this time, i hit something close to the motherload! i checked the bagged toys and saw a bag with a box inside. the box had a picture of a trestle bridge. i picked it up and saw HO scale on the side. i grabbed it and then saw a decent bag of wooden track for ashvin on the next shelf. i bought that for $6. i paid $12 for the ho scale bag, which would up containing quite a bit of track, a mixture of atlas, lima and lifelike. the box itself contained enough bits for 2 matching trestles. also in the bag was a small bag of unpainted people. a really good buy. all will be donated to the club except some of the people. the seated ones will be painted and placed inside my excursion car. after that, i went back over towards home and went to the eastside hospice shop, thinking if one had some good stuff, the other might as well. no luck, lol. no biggie though... i think ive used my luck up for a while!
we went down to palmy today to see finding nemo 3d. on the way down, we stopped at sanson and i picked up a moondreamer for $2. in palmy itself we had some really good scores!
at savemart, i was looking through a bin of soft toys and chanced upon a lovely white steiff bear. she was very expensive... $1NZD LOL. at the warehouse, i found a boxed set of pixar films on clearance for $45. dad got it for christmas, which is great. finding nemo was awesome. so nice to see it on the big screen at long last. glad i got t0 see it. from there, we went down to toyworld and the plaza. at toyworld, had sorted and numbered the lego minifigs, so i was able to get 3 i wanted. still need to find santa, but theres no real hurry. i also got 2 nanoblocks sets... clown fish and ducks. at farmers, i found the sodor sounds trackpack for $50. pleased to find something new and something quite different as well. photos of that set are here i also picked up titanic blu ray [with alternate ending?!] and the new mumford and sons cd. all in all, a jolly good day out! what an awesome buy these sets were! i got 3 sets, a dr yellow transfer, an n700 basic and an elevated track, for just under $80NZD. they arrived within 2 days and come with the paperwork and a few other bits and pieces. the 2 big sets were sold with parts missing, but they were 100% complete when opened, which is a huge bonus.
i took the transfer station out to the club cos i couldnt wait. its great! works perfectly. im going to try and incorporate it into my christmas layout somehow, hiding it behind the suspension bridge. photos are here the nascar flatdecks were a bust... they wont hook up to anything as the couplers are too high. not too big a deal, but will have to find a revell loco to use. the IHC john wilkes dome car tracks nicely though. running night next week, ive been told in no uncertain terms to bring my john wilkes stuff and not the canadian hoppers. my two nascar flatdecks are finally here are chasing up the seller. they were so worth the wait! im going to borrow robs spirit of 76 to give them a run round the layout tomorrow night. will get some photos.
my IHC lehigh valley dome car arrived too. glad i didnt pay much for it. it was missing a coupler and in no way new in box as advertised. thankfully, i was able to nick the axle off the spare end car and replace it on the dome, making it useable in my train. photos of all 3 are here we had club night last night. i took my hiawatha out to run after sanding the tracks on the tri-ang layout on sunday. shes run great! needs a drip of smoke oil in her, but thats easily done. ran the mehano and the club tri-angs as well. they all go well except for the santa fe shunter, which derails on one corner. the ballast might need reducing more in that spot.
my nascar flatdecks should be here today. had to email the seller and ask what was going on. i took the box of tyco my friend donald gave me and sanded the tracks. the bridge might be used on the big HO layout. last week, i found 3 plarail tomy sets on trademe, one of which was the dr yellow automatic transfer station. the other came with a white bullet train and the 3rd was a basci elevated tracks set in japanese box.
i got the transfer station for an amazing $33NZD, the white bullet set for $26nzd and the elevated tracks for $10. i plan on using the transfer station on my next layout with thomas, hiding it from peoples view. so thomas will go in one side, stop at the station and trigger james or whoever to appear instead. should be neat to see their reactions. photos will be posted when they arrive. well, what a day. im so glad its over and am now hanging out for sunday. 1 more day to go, thank goodness! mum called into work and brought home my risky rails set. ive just taken photos and have to say i am disgusted with fisher-price. thomas is brand new, out of the box and has 1 massive scrape on one side, a peeling sticker and the red base is badly bent on one side, slightly bent on the other. the only saving grace is his face is actually perfect! no wonky eyes. i will investigate whether the face can be removed and attached to a better condition body. photos are here and here, and the instruction sheet and 2012 pamphlet are here an interesting note is his log car is completely unstamped. no fisher-price logo, or anything to say its a thomas item except the coupler.
no nascar flatdecks yet... will keep on waiting! i got my john wilkes set back last night. rob has done a good job and they ride well on the club layout. we also started painting robs christmas layout. 1 coat of undercoat done, the second will be put down on sunday. went down to farmers after work and picked up the new thomas set i had put on hold. havent even really looked at it, but glad to have it none the less. not sure when i will bring it home. had to leave it tonight as the weather was meant to pack in. good thing, as rob brought my john wilkes back, so i ended up with a full backpack plus my harry potter shoulder bag. with the trackmaster set on the back, there would have been no room for me. lol.
still no sign of the nascar rolling stock. hopefully tomorrow. if the weather is good on sunday, i might make a run down to palmy to see finding nemo 3d since the local theatre doesnt appear to be getting it. the 3 trackmaster engnes i bought on 1day last week arrived today. they arrived together, but in 3 seperate bags. crazy, lol.
i quite like them. mavis and peter sam are totally covered in flecks of dust and muck and look great! thomas' decoration is much more basic and consists only of yellow drips on the side of him. both stickers are crooked as a dogs hind leg. just terrible. photos of all 3 are here hopefully my HO scale nascar sets will be here tomorrow. i have asked mum to bring them to work if they do, as being thursday, club night, i dont get home til near on 10pm, and i want to show them to the guys. i popped into farmers today, and had my friend karen put aside the new thomas risky rails bridge drop set. they are having 25% off toys, so thatll bring it down a bit. wont be any photos of that til the weekend as i will walk down after work, pick it up, then take it back to work and leave it there. the box is big enough it wont fit in my backpack, and i dont want to drag it all over town on the back of the motorbike, specially with the weather we are having lately. |
